NN Gallery is proud to present the Malaysian Watercolour Organisation’s (MWO) Annual 2007 Exhibition from 19th March till 4th April 2007 at NN Gallery. The exhibition will be officiated by YBhg. Datin Siti Nooriah Ana binti Ab. Razak, Wife of Y.B. Dato' Zulhasnan Rafique, Federal Territories Minister, on Sun 25th March at 11am.

MWO is one of the most active art groups in Malaysia. The inclusion of many new members since last year has guaranteed a record number of participating MWO members and number of artworks for this year’s show. A total of 56 MWO artists are set to showcase their latest works ranging from portraiture, scenic landscapes and images depicting everyday life , market scenes and fishing villages, flora and fauna as well as some stylized abstract works.

The MWO members are some of the most accomplished watercolourists in the country, with illustrious members who have long dedicated their art to champion the medium.

Recently, in July 2006, Dr Wong Seng Tong, Chairman of the Organisation held a landmark Watercolour Competition entitled “Enchanted Land, Colourful Life”, in association with the Ministry of Arts,Culture and Heritage, Putrajaya Corporation and the National Art Galley to great success. This in turn elevated and helped rekindle the love for the medium.

Watercolours as a medium are reminiscent of a bygone era, they express a romantic and nostalgic imagery of people and places. Its traditions in Malaysia dates back pre independence and even goes back as early as the nineteenth century. The art of watercolour bears a significant history in Malaysian artistic practices.

In creating greater awareness and a love for the medium, the organization has actively and passionately been promoting an appreciation of this medium through means of publications, field trips, painting excursions and exhibitions. A worthy and notable cause indeed.
