NN Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition by Fong Kim Sing entitled “Di Antara Langit dan Bumi” from 11th – 30th June 2005. The exhibition will showcase new panoramic paintings in oils.
Born in Kedah in 1949, Fong Kim Sing is a self-taught artist. A member of the Angkatan Pelukis Kedah, he has been actively taking part in exhibitions around the region and locally since 1981. The “Di Antara Langit dan Bumi series” will be his 6th solo exhibition.
The new works are inspired by the different settings during the day. Scenes from rural life such as the fishing villages, kampung houses and ducks and birds are captured during day break and as the sun begins to set, alluding to different moods, styles and sensibility.

The opaqueness of the misty morning series gives calmness to the imagery, imparting a sense of time for contemplation and a new beginning. The use of white, blues and green in his palette dominate his canvasses. Painted in an impressionistic manner, using a palette knife, thick-layered renderings gives a shutterbug effect to this series. This effect leads the audience to a more focused view of the subject matter.
The glow of the evening series sees a more evocative colour palette. The use of amber, reds and deep purples captures a brooding time. The painterly style changes to a finer and smoother application, giving greater attention to detail. A sense of space is heightened where Kim Sings’ depictions of mountainous vistas are layered in changing tones and hues. One finds in his panoramic vistas a solitary bird in flight in the horizons.
The sereneness of Kim Sings works is attuned to his life in Kedah. Away from the bustle of city life, Kim Sing draws inspiration upon the changing seasons of the land, especially the colours of the seasons as seen in the padi fields, the fruit trees and the daily activities of the fisherman, thus making for a quieter and humbler existence. Reflected in his art, it tells of the romantic nature of the artist and his setting.
