The exhibition features 11 of Penang's renowned artists. ArtGrup Penang was formed in 2003 by Yeong Seak Ling, Yuen Chee Ling, Dr Zakaria Ali, Ch'ng Huck Theng and Tang Hon Yin based on a shared vision to initiate action which would make artists aware of a need to raise the level of their work and present exhibitions of quality to art lovers in the region. Khoo Sui Ho, Chong Hon Fatt, James Sum, Chuah Siew Teng, Tan Lye Ho and Koay Soo Kau were later included into the group. Aptly entitled "Northern Vantage", the exhibition showcases works from a northern perspective culminating in a celebration of different yet original styles.

By looking through the lens of a Northerner, the contradictions between the contemporary ideal and the lived reality of the Northern artists are unveiled."
