artist biography

NN Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition by Drew Harris entitled "The Fragile Earth Series” presenting a new series of acrylic/mixed media paintings as well as monoprints from 12th May until 2nd June 2012. This exhibition will mark Drew's comeback exhibition after 6 years away from Kuala Lumpur .

"The Fragile Earth Series” exhibition is Drew's on-going exploration and personal take on nature. His influence is again derivative of weather related subject matter. It has become all too common to view atmospheric happenings around the globe via the media and over the years, satellite imagery has integrated itself into our lives primarily by means of weather related news activity that has helped us determine whether certain storm activity may occur and affect our immediate lives and environment.

Satellite imagery, when broken down in to specific regions or that of geological interest become abstract in nature, free from difinitive border lines, political, financial or resourcebased control and allow us to see the very earth we inhabit.

Life on earth is shared with tens of millions of species though when viewing this great planet from space, the geological enormity of land mass and distance is overwhelming. We are able to see just how the continents divide, how the earth’s glacial paths wind amidst mountainous terrain and how, as an example, global warming is effecting the rise and fall of our natural resources the world over.

Man has become his own worst enemy, and by seeing how we have affected the earth with what may seem like harmless environmental development, we are able to witness the rapid decline in natural resources and perhaps, over time, begin to repair the very environment we have been given to share.
