NN Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition by watercolourist Kho Choon Lee entitled “Inner Eye” from 20th November until 7th December 2011. This will be his first solo exhibition which will showcase a collection of watercolours as well as sketches of vivid reflections of life and landscape.

Born in Muar, Johor in 1970, Kho Choon Lee graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1992 and is currently based in Malacca as an art instructor. He has participated in numerous group exhibition, as well as art competitions. He is a regular feature in the annual Malaysian Watercolour Society exhibition.

Birds, foliages and scenes reminiscent of the simple life are captured in his works to illicit his love of nature and his observation of life in rural areas. He captures scenes such as children playing kites by the seaside, the changing of colours during the rice harvest and the migration of birds.

His works are of realistic depictions set against a backdrop of fluid washes, an effect which is unique to the medium. Detailed embellishments such as speckled dots of paints, the contrasts between visible brushstokes , broad sweeps and planes of colours make for a celebration of mark making qualities afforded by the medium.

The recent works express a fondness for his childhood and the memories growing up in a small village. He says that such scenes still exists today although less readily visible. So when one does chance upon it, it brings joy to those who experience it.
