Chuah Kooi Yong
Born in Penang in 1938, Chuah Kooi
Yong, P.J.M. is presently the principal of Equator Academy of Art
& Design, Penang, and an Interior and Graphic Designer at D'
Elegance Design.
He graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, in 1960.
He was a high school teacher in Kedah for 2 years after his return
from Singapore. In 1963 he pursued his further studies in the
United Kingdom at Hornsey College of Art (now Middlesex University).
He graduated as a Graphic Designer in 1967.
He returned to Penang to start and run an Interior and Graphic
Design company for 18 years. His work was commissioned by Hotels,
Supermarkets, Airlines, Restaurants, Shopping Arcades, Factories and
Residential Housing Schemes etc. |

He traveled widely within Europe,
often visiting museums and art galleries. Chuah Kooi Yong is a practicing
artist, and sketches whenever he finds something of interest in
his surroundings. His most favored media are watercolour and oil.
He participated in a four-man show in Singapore in 1960, and held
a one-man show in Penang in 1963. He continues to exhibit locally
and his work is avidly collected.
He is a member of the Penang Art Society, Penang Watercolour
Society, Penang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Penang Chinese
Girls' High School Parent Teacher Association and Sin Quah, Chuah
Chongsoo Association, the Penang Road Safety Council,
International Lions Clubs, and Penang Club. |
